Google Groups Beta 2

Google has launched their Google Groups 2 Beta search engine. It’s clean interface, much like the usual Google and Gmail allows users to search ‘Google Groups.’ What is a Google group? It’s a lot like the Yahoo! groups which have been around for a while now. Google describes a ‘Google Group’ as follows…

“A Google Group is an online discussion group or mailing list that helps groups of people communicate using email and the Web. Every group has a home page hosted by Google where members can start new discussions or reply to older topics. In addition, every group also has its own email address, enabling users to interact with the group using email.”

“It’s fast and easy to create your own Google Group. Just click the “Create a new group” link on the left side of most pages. You can customize your group to suit your needs. For example, a group may be restricted (only people who have been invited to the group can read and participate in discussions) or public (anyone on the web can read and search the group’s content). In addition, group owners can create custom group types. For instance, an owner might want an announcement-only group, enabling the owner to send out announcements to the group while preventing any group members from posting their own topics and replies.”

“Finally, group members can choose how they would like to be notified of new activity in their groups. For important groups, members may choose to receive an email message every time a new message is posted to the group. For less time sensitive groups, users may choose to receive a daily summary email or simply read the group on the web.”
