Multiply: 1GB Free Storage
I could never really get into ’social’ software (ie: software that tells your friends where you are and online communities that try to mimic offline life) on the web, however, Multiply has given me some ideas now that they offer 1GB of storage space for pictures, movies, music, etc. for free and though there is all this hype over GMail, GMail caps your attachments at 10MB.
If you’re looking for some free online storage, Multiply could be right up your alley. As for the social software portion of Multiply, here’s how it works:
Multiply works much like a message board and e-mail program, but with key differences that make Multiply a far more powerful communication tool than either of them.
Unlike message boards whose participants are all interested in a specific topic (such as a car or a sports team), Multiply is the message board for your life, whose participants are your friends and family, and all of their friends too. On Multiply, each post is actually a link to a photo album, journal, movie review or anything else that someone you know has posted on his or her personal web page for you to see and discuss.
Multiply can also be used to compose and send messages, similar to e-mail but much more powerful. With e-mail your audience is limited to the specific people in your address book. Multiply messages - or multi-messages, as we call them - can reach the entire network of people you are connected to through mutual friends.
