According to Nikkei Net, Japan, Sony is planning on ditching copy protected CDs completely come November. While copy protected CDs just slowed things down a bit for music pirates, Sony, giving up on the cause was unexpected.

Wholly abolishing the prevention CD of the SONY music and duplication

It announced that the SONY music entertainment on the 30th, the illegal duplication prevention function which is introduced to CD which the record company of the same company group sells ends gradually from portion of October sale amount, wholly abolishes from the new 譜 after November 17th.

As for the same company duplication prevention function was attached, “label gate CD” specification, copyright protection and the like in purpose traditional Japanese music CD targetting consecutively was introduced from the January last year.
