PodCasting is Cool, but Can it Last?

podcastThis is a fad that will die down quickly. The internet has taken the place of television for many people. Hours once spent watching TV are now spent on the computer. Why? Because it’s more interactive, more engaging. You query and read through data, download various things, etc. Sure you may download a PodCast, but how much time do you have to spend listening to your next door neighbor review a gadget or preach politics? To me this is going backwards. It’s like going from TV back to radio. Coolness aside, what’s the point? Not to mention that RSS itself hasn’t (and may never) hit the mainstream public. Though I understand that isn’t necessarily a measure of success. Overall time will be the main contributor to the failure of PodCasting. 1) Who will continue to have time to make the material (and keep it fresh) and 2) Who has the time to listen. A blogger can post daily from various locations. A PodCaster must use a computer and the process is far more involved.
