Unlimited “Free” Online Storage

Title of this post sound too good to be true? It is. For the uninhibited out there, desperate for someplace to backup their files online comes Allmydata.com. A kind-of Peer-to-peer “free”online storage system that works like this:

1. You download an application (Windows Only).
2. Through the application, you make space on your hard drive available to the community.
3. For every 10Mb you make available to others, you get 1Mb of online storage via Allmydata.com.

Interesting only in concept. Is free online storage really worth a 10:1 ratio of space on your hard drive vs. online space? With so many cheap online storage alternatives, we have a hard time believing that Allmydata.com’s free business model is going to take off. They do however, state that coming soon is a paid plan of 10Gb of storage for $4.99 per month.
